All in all, it was a relatively minor update. More specifically, the update made changes to the OS kernel and key services, the SSL, which helps with creating secure connections to servers, and the Switch's list of banned words, as noted by OatmealDome. Nintendo updated: - package2 (contains OS kernel and key services) - SSL (helps w/ creating secure connections to a server - seems TLSv1.3 support was dropped?) - bad words list Looks to be minor things, I’m going back to sleep- OatmealDome June 8, 2021 This news comes by way of VideoGamesChronicle, which originally reported on the new 12.0.3 Switch update and everything it entails.Īccording to VGC, which sourced OatmealDome on Twitter, the 12.0.3 update "fixes error code 2123-1502 when accessing the eShop," which is an error users have commonly run into as of late. Nintendo released a new update for the Switch and pulled it down shortly after with zero explanation as to why. For those who did download 12.0.3 and are suffering issues, it appears there's currently no remedy, other than waiting for a fix. Nintendo has given no timeline for a new version of the update, but says that it will provide a follow-up in due course. With a subsequent update, it's more than likely that new microSDXC cards could be used normally.

Switch dataminer OatmealDome had previously said that the update does not corrupt SD cards, after rumours spread to that effect, and Nintendo's update appears to confirm this. While not fully explained, the issues the defective update can seemingly cause involve network connection issues, and the inability to use new microSDXC cards because no update can be downloaded to support them.

In an update on its Japanese customer service Twitter account, Nintendo confirmed that it was temporarily suspending districution of the update, and it is working on a new version.

Update : Nintendo has offered a reasoning for pulling its 12.0.3 Switch update offline, saying that updated consoles' network connections "may not be possible", and that it could cause issues for newly-added microSDXC cards.
